If you are planning on visiting the Eiffel Tower this summer, think again. Record-setting heat throughout Europe has made travel a grueling activity.
Paris, France – The top viewing platform of the iconic Eiffel Tower was closed to visitors on July 1, 2025, as a severe heatwave gripped the French capital. The decision by the tower's management left many tourists disappointed, eager to experience the panoramic views from the landmark's summit. Laia Pons, a tourist from Barcelona, expressed her frustration, stating that her long-planned visit was thwarted by the closure. "We have just received an email and the tickets are cancelled," Pons said, noting that she had purchased the tickets three years ago. "Just for the heat, it's not possible to go upstairs, so I don't know." She added that she would try to purchase another ticket if possible. According to weather forecaster Meteo France, temperatures across France were expected to peak on July 1, reaching highs of 40-41 degrees Celsius (104-105 Fahrenheit) in some areas, with many others experiencing 36-39 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat conditions prompted safety measures at popular sites, impacting tourist activities and highlighting the growing challenges posed by climate change.
