Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – A Singaporean Grab rider, Afiq Zayany, who recently garnered attention for his earnings and living situation, has publicly criticized Malaysian news outlets for allegedly misrepresenting his story. In a recent video, Zayany claimed that several Malaysian publications engaged in "patchwriting," copying and translating articles from Singaporean media without proper verification, leading to the spread of false information. Zayany stated that unlike some Singaporean news agencies which reached out to him directly for interviews and fact-checking, Malaysian media did not contact him. "Every single news publication [in Singapore]... they emailed me and asked me questions to get the best and accurate information," Zayany explained. He contrasted this with Malaysian outlets, asserting, "None of you did your research or even watched my videos." The core of the misinformation, according to Zayany, revolves around his residence. He clarified that he never stated he *bought* the villa featured in the articles, but rather *rented* it for RM1,800. "Never once I said I bought this house... I said I stayed in a place like this," he emphasized. He expressed concern that such inaccuracies erode public trust. "The information that you guys are spreading is wrong... I don't want my viewers, I don't want my subscribers to think that I'm lying." Zayany urged Malaysian media to prioritize accuracy and conduct thorough research. "Please do your research. Please watch my videos at least. If you want to write an article about me, the least you can do is actually watch my videos," he appealed, highlighting that his videos are not lengthy documentaries.
