Lima, Peru – A festive wedding celebration in the bustling San Juan de Lurigancho district of Lima was abruptly interrupted yesterday evening by a large-scale police operation, culminating in the arrest of twelve individuals suspected of belonging to a dangerous criminal organization. The dramatic raid took place at a popular venue situated on Avenida Las Lomas within the Zárate urbanization, where the wedding ceremony was in full swing. Police sources confirmed that the operation specifically targeted the criminal gang known as ‘La Batería de Taquire,’ which is allegedly involved in a range of serious offenses including extortion, illicit drug trafficking, and the illegal possession of firearms. The initial phase of the intervention saw law enforcement officers detain a total of 103 people present at the event, comprising 60 men and 43 women. Following meticulous preliminary investigations conducted on-site and at the police station, authorities were able to identify the twelve primary suspects believed to be key members of the aforementioned criminal enterprise. The remaining individuals, whose involvement was not substantiated, were subsequently released. Colonel Marcial Rufino Flores, who leads the East 1 Police Division, provided a comprehensive statement to the press regarding the success of the operation. "These twelve delinquents, these twelve people who have absolutely no respect for human life, have been effectively intervened, detained, and crucially, removed from society," Colonel Flores asserted, highlighting the gravity of their alleged crimes. He further elaborated on the strategic importance of the raid, stating, "It is paramount to take all criminals who have been operating clandestinely and undermining the peace of this community out of circulation." The Colonel confirmed that the detained individuals are currently being held at the Depincri 1 of San Juan de Lurigancho, where they will face formal charges related to illicit drug trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. This operation represents a significant victory for Peruvian law enforcement in their ongoing battle against organized crime within the capital, sending a clear message about their commitment to public safety.
