INSS Cracks Down on Fraud: Biometric Security for Retiree Loans
Brazil's INSS to Implement Biometric Security for Retiree Loans Brazil's National Institute of Social Security (INSS) is taking decisive action to combat fraud within its loan programs for retirees and pensioners. Starting this Friday, May 23rd, all new payroll-deductible loan applications will require biometric authentication through the Meu INSS platform, both online and via the mobile app. This move comes after a recent revelation of widespread fraud involving associations offering loan discounts. "This measure is crucial to protect the financial well-being of our retirees and pensioners," said an INSS spokesperson, referring to the recent fraudulent activities. The INSS has been working to identify and prosecute those responsible for the fraudulent schemes. The fraud involved associations taking advantage of the system to secure loans for pensioners without their knowledge or consent. This led to significant financial losses for many individuals. The biometric system will help to ensure that only legitimate applicants can access these loans. In response to the fraud, Congress is also considering legislation aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. One such proposal, from Deputy Sidney Leite of the PSD in Amazonas, suggests prohibiting direct deductions from pension benefits by associations and entities. "It's important that we put a stop to this," said Leite, highlighting the need for stronger oversight and accountability in the system. The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta, has indicated a willingness to expedite the process of addressing these legislative proposals. The implementation of biometric authentication and the ongoing legislative efforts represent a significant step toward securing the INSS loan system and protecting vulnerable citizens.
