Black Texas Woman Accuses Mercado’s Restaurant of Discrimination After Being As…
A Texas woman shared a video accusing a restaurant of discrimination for making her wait while another customer was seated immediately.
A recent incident at Mercado's restaurant has sparked accusations of racial discrimination, brought to light by a widely circulated social media post from a customer. On October 23, 2025, Alicia Gossett, a content creator, visited the establishment in Jasper, Texas, with her cousin and requested a booth for their lunch. According to Gossett, she was informed by the host that she would need to wait for a table to be cleaned, despite her observation of "plenty of tables available" and no apparent business rush. Moments later, a white woman accompanied by a child reportedly entered the restaurant and was promptly seated at a booth for two without any delay. This perceived disparity in service prompted Gossett to confront the restaurant staff. Gossett stated, "I asked the host and manager why did I have to wait but they didn't have an explanation. I also asked was it because of the color of my skin and they instantly got quiet. No apologies or nothing." She expressed deep frustration over the alleged treatment, remarking, "I have NEVER in MY 45 years been treated so distastefully. Look at them in the background just standing there....I left and will NEVER be back." The video, which has garnered significant attention online with over 52,600 views, shows Gossett inside the restaurant, gesturing towards the staff and seating areas as she narrates her experience. The incident has prompted discussions among viewers regarding customer service standards and potential biases in public establishments. Mercado's management has not yet issued a public statement regarding these serious allegations, which continue to circulate across social media platforms.
