Mexico City A popular seasonal dish, Chile en Nogada, is once again making its rounds, with local food enthusiasts sharing their experiences. Suzanne Velur, a notable online content creator, recently reviewed the dish at a Vips restaurant, providing insights into its preparation and taste. Velur, who tried the Chile en Nogada at Vips for the first time this season, expressed particular satisfaction with the nogada sauce. "The nogada was super delicious, really, it was very sweet," she commented, although she noted that the color suggested it might not be made with the original walnut. Despite this, she affirmed, "The flavor was quite good, a good combination with the pomegranate, with the parsley. It was delicious, honestly. I think that was the best part of the dish." The traditional poblano pepper, filled with ground meat and fruits, was also a highlight. Velur appreciated the option to order the dish either battered (capeado) or unbattered (sin capear), which she considers a significant plus as she prefers the traditional battered version. "I love that you can order it battered or unbattered, that gives it extra points because generally they give them unbattered and I love the traditional battered," she stated. Her meal was part of a package deal, which included a consommé soup with rice and chicken, an orange juice, and a lime pie for dessert. Velur found the lime pie equally enjoyable, concluding, "If I go to Vips this season, I would definitely order it again." The review highlights the enduring appeal of this classic Mexican dish and its accessibility through restaurant chains like Vips.
