Seville, Spain – A local mechanic from Talleres Ebenezer has highlighted a common driving habit that could be silently damaging your car's air conditioning system. In a recent video, the expert advised drivers against turning off their vehicles while the air conditioning is still active, even if the car's automatic systems are designed to manage it. According to the mechanic, stopping the car with the air conditioning on causes a sudden drop in electrical tension. This abrupt change leaves the air conditioning compressor in an operational state, even as the engine powers down, leading to undue stress on the compressor and the auxiliary belt. "The car doesn't understand when it's stopping; it simply cuts the current," he explained. "This drop in tension means the air conditioning isn't in a stopped position; it's still in an operating position." He further elaborated that this creates an inertia and force on the auxiliary belt, which can lead to premature wear and tear on the system. The mechanic emphasized the importance of removing this load from the vehicle before stopping, drawing a parallel to depressing the clutch in a manual car before bringing it to a halt. "It's about taking the load off the vehicle, preventing damage to the system," he stated. While he assured that such actions might not immediately cause a catastrophic failure, he advocated for a proactive approach to vehicle conservation. "The sum of small details in vehicle maintenance, small things you can help with, will make the car last many more kilometers, many more years, and give you many fewer breakdowns," he concluded. This simple tip aims to help drivers extend the life of their vehicles and reduce future repair costs.
