Car Maintenance Tip: Understanding Your Vehicle's Light Adjustment Controls A recent video by mechanic Juan José Ebenezer, founder of Talleres Ebenezer, has shed light on two crucial yet often-ignored controls in vehicles: the dashboard light intensity regulator and the headlight height adjustment knob. The video, which has garnered significant attention, emphasizes the importance of these features for driver safety and comfort. Ebenezer explains that the right-hand knob, typically found near the main light controls, allows drivers to adjust the brightness of their car's dashboard. "When driving at night, especially on long journeys, strong lights inside the cabin can cause eye fatigue and reduce your perception of the external environment," he stated. He advises drivers to lower the dashboard light intensity to just enough to comfortably read the gauges, thereby improving focus on the road ahead. The left-hand knob, marked with numbers, controls the vertical aim of the headlights. This feature is particularly vital when a vehicle is heavily loaded, such as with luggage in the trunk or when towing a trailer. As Ebenezer demonstrated, "When you put a lot of weight in the back of the car, the rear tends to drop, and consequently, the front lifts up, causing the headlights to point upwards like a cradle." This upward tilt can dangerously blind oncoming drivers. By using this knob, drivers can lower the headlight beam, ensuring they illuminate the road effectively without dazzling others. While some modern vehicles are equipped with automatic light adjustment systems, Ebenezer stressed that "most cars still have these manual adjustment knobs." He urged all drivers to locate and understand these controls, noting that knowing how to properly use them "can be determinant to avoid bothering other drivers and to drive more comfortably." The mechanic's practical advice serves as a timely reminder for all motorists to prioritize proper vehicle maintenance and adjustment for enhanced road safety.
