Timișoara's Mehala "Small Market" Undergoes Significant Modernization
Timișoara, Romania - The "Piața Mică" (Small Market) in the Mehala district of Timișoara is nearing the completion of its modernization efforts, undertaken by Piețe SA. The extensive 8000-square-meter area has been fully asphalted and equipped with a new rainwater collection system. Future plans include clearly demarcating the market space to facilitate organized access for producer vehicles. Mayor Dominic Fritz stated, "We received repeated requests for the modernization of this market. There was a real and pressing need for us to intervene. Through this investment, we ensure that the space will function efficiently and in decent conditions, both for producers and for buyers, including during periods of unfavorable weather." The municipality aims to provide comfortable conditions for vendors and customers, especially when the ground previously became impassable due to poor weather. This investment addresses a long-standing need, restoring the public space's utility for the local community. Furthermore, Piețe SA will install a video surveillance system. Piața Mehala 2 is designated for wholesale trade and plays a vital role in supporting local fruit and vegetable producers. During the summer, the market operates daily from Monday to Saturday, 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Sundays from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. For the rest of the year, hours are Monday to Saturday, 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
