
Man Detained After Stealing 650 Grams of Gold Jewelry in Timișoara
Timișoara, Romania – A 45-year-old man was apprehended on June 17, 2025, after allegedly stealing approximately 650 grams of gold jewelry, valued at nearly 300,000 lei (approximately 60,000 EUR), from a commercial establishment in Timișoara. The incident was reported by local police. According to Aurora Piperea, spokesperson for the Timiș County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Timiș), police officers from Section 1 Timișoara were alerted to the theft. Upon arrival, they confirmed that a man had stolen multiple gold pieces from inside a commercial society. The suspect attempted to flee but was quickly detained by employees of the establishment, with the assistance of a civilian passing by. Following preliminary checks, police confirmed the details of the theft. A criminal file has been opened under the supervision of prosecutors from the Timișoara Court of Justice. The man has been detained for 24 hours in the IPJ Bihor detention center as investigations continue.
