Montenegro's coastal tourism sector is facing significant challenges, with a recent video by content creator "Terazijski Crnogorac" sparking widespread discussion about the reasons behind a perceived "failed season." The creator attributes the downturn to a prevailing mindset among Montenegrin hospitality workers, whom he claims aspire to live the "Montenegrin dream"—earning a full year's income within just two months of the summer season, then ceasing work for the remainder of the year. According to the video, this ambition leads to an expectation for tourists to spend lavishly and depart swiftly, ideally within 10 to 15 minutes, to make way for new paying customers. The author further alleges that Montenegrin businesses have consistently leveraged various crises as opportunities to inflate prices to exorbitant levels. The video concludes by highlighting the irony: despite these high prices, hospitality providers reportedly complain about tourists being "bad" or "cheap," citing instances of visitors sharing a single pizza among four people or a large bottle of water among three. This, the author argues, is a direct consequence of a pizza costing 20 euros and water priced at 7 euros. The content creator starkly states that this approach has transformed the "Montenegrin dream" into "Montenegrin hara-kiri," suggesting a self-destructive path for the country's tourism industry and bleak prospects for future seasons. Comments on the video largely corroborate the author's claims, with many users sharing personal experiences of inflated prices and poor service in Montenegro, often comparing it unfavorably to other tourist destinations like Croatia or even all-inclusive resorts in Egypt and Turkey. One commenter noted, "prices are chaos. Just starting with sunbeds and umbrellas, for a family of four you have to set aside 40 euros a day minimum!!!" Another added, "The biggest problem is that 90% of the beach is under sunbeds. Besides accommodation, you need that much for sunbeds daily, people are forced to take them because everything is under sunbeds except some corner where there are 1000 people." These sentiments underscore a growing dissatisfaction among visitors regarding value for money in Montenegro.
