In a recent address, Gyamfi declared that the 'days of illegal gold trading and uncontrolled gold smuggling have come to an end.' He outlined a comprehensive strategy to combat this issue, emphasizing the board's commitment to bringing all smugglers to justice, regardless of nationality. The Gold Board's plan includes the formation of a standing anti-gold smuggling task force in collaboration with national security agencies. Gyamfi stated, "We shall not rest until every gold smuggler is behind bars." This task force will work to strengthen enforcement and deter future illegal activities. A key element of the strategy is the establishment of an international standard ISO-certified assay laboratory by 2026. This laboratory will ensure accurate purity determination and valuation of all gold exported from Ghana, promoting transparency and accountability within the industry. The Gold Board is also actively pursuing partnerships to advance value addition, moving from the export of raw gold to bullion in the short to medium term. Gyamfi's address also touched on the vision for a gold village in Ghana, modeled after the successful gold souk in Dubai. This initiative aims to establish Ghana as a hub for gold jewelry and ornaments in Africa.
