Amman, Jordan – A US-based car dealer, currently in Jordan, has unveiled an elaborate car selling scam that nearly cost him a significant amount of money. The dealer, who owns a dealership in the United States, shared his experience after attempting to purchase a Mitsubishi Pajero, a model not typically sold in the US, which was being offered with a clean Florida title. The red flags began to emerge during a routine inspection. The vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) sticker on the driver's door was missing. Further inspection revealed that the VIN etched onto the windshield had been painted over, and the VIN on the car's chassis was found to be ground off. "It was gone, like not gone like covered up with a piece of paper or something, like they replaced the windshield and painted the motherfucker black," the dealer stated in his video, emphasizing the deliberate nature of the concealment. The most critical discovery came after running the VIN from the provided Florida title through Carfax. It was revealed that the title belonged to a completely different vehicle: a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. This Outlander had been exported from Florida to Jordan several years prior and was subsequently totaled in Jordan. According to the dealer, local regulations in Jordan do not always require totaled vehicles to have their titles reported as salvaged. Investigators believe the scam involves taking the clean title and license plates from a legally exported, but subsequently totaled, vehicle and using them to sell a different, possibly stolen or severely damaged, car. "Everything on paper looked correct to the untrained eye," the dealer explained, highlighting the sophistication of the scheme. He urged potential car buyers in Jordan to be extremely cautious and thoroughly inspect vehicles and their documentation.
