A Belgrade resident experienced a harrowing ordeal yesterday when a kitchen fire erupted, causing significant damage to their home. The incident began when cooking oil, left to heat on the stove, overheated and ignited. According to the homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, the situation escalated rapidly. 'I moved the pan, and the oil splashed onto the hot plate, then the fire started burning and caught the extractor fan,' she stated. In a moment of panic, an attempt was made to extinguish the oil fire with water, a dangerous action that caused the flames to intensify. 'As I started to pour, it flared up, and everything started to burn,' she recounted. The house quickly filled with dense, black smoke, making visibility almost impossible. The homeowner, concerned for her pet, a poodle named Tody, struggled to locate him in the smoke-filled environment. 'It was so black in the house that nothing could be seen,' she explained. Fortunately, both the owner and Tody managed to evacuate safely. While the kitchen suffered extensive charring, and other rooms are covered in soot, the most important outcome is that no lives were lost. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of kitchen fires and the importance of knowing proper extinguishing methods.
