Magaly Medina to Appeal Farfán Ruling: "300,000 Soles is an Aberration"
Lima, Peru – Renowned television personality Magaly Medina has voiced strong opposition to a recent court decision ordering her to pay 300,000 Peruvian soles to former footballer Jefferson Farfán. The ruling stems from a legal dispute between the two public figures. Speaking publicly for the first time since the verdict became known, Medina stated, "I found out through the media, just like you. I haven't received any official notification yet." She added that her legal team would address the matter soon. Medina expressed profound concern regarding the Peruvian justice system. "What truly results in me finding it quite difficult to understand is how justice works in our country," she remarked. She specifically criticized the substantial penalty: "300,000 soles for broadcasting images that have not violated anyone's intimacy whatsoever? Because what is visible to the eye is visible to the eye." The television host drew a stark comparison to other legal cases, questioning the proportionality of the fine. "Tell me, in cases of homicide, of rape, when has a judge given 300,000 soles in civil reparations to any victim of homicide, or to those who had their children's lives, their parents' lives, taken? To which battered, raped, mistreated woman has a judge ever given 300,000 soles in civil reparations? That seems like a total aberration to me." Medina confirmed that while the channel she works for is responsible for the payment, she intends to pursue further legal avenues. "Although it is the last instance, there are other institutions to which we will appeal," she concluded, indicating that the legal battle is far from over.
