Millions Lost: The High Cost of Schengen Visa Rejections for African Nations

Forty-five African nations suffered significant financial losses in 2024 due to a high number of Schengen visa application rejections. A total of $68 million was lost, representing 41% of the total rejections globally. "This highlights a concerning trend," says an immigration expert. The analysis shows Algeria experienced the highest number of rejections, with nearly 185,000 applications denied. In contrast, Liberia, with 123 applications, saw only one rejection. The EU collected over 145 million Euros from these application fees. This situation underscores the need for a more equitable and transparent visa process.
