Rodrigo Paz: "Being Formal in Bolivia is Expensive," Criticizes Customs and State
La Paz, Bolivia – Presidential candidate Rodrigo Paz Pereira of the PDC has voiced strong criticism regarding the economic landscape in Bolivia, asserting that the cost of formality is prohibitively high for citizens and businesses. In a recent interview, Paz stated, "Being formal in Bolivia is expensive." Paz specifically targeted the Bolivian Customs (Aduana), labeling it as "the number one swindler of this country." He elaborated that the high costs associated with formality stem from various factors, including credits, taxes, and tariffs, which he claims hinder economic growth and entrepreneurship. The candidate further described the central state as a "blockade" to economic initiatives, suggesting that its policies impede progress rather than facilitate it. He highlighted a significant disparity in the labor force, noting that while approximately half a million people are part of the formal sector, a staggering 5.7 million individuals operate in the informal economy. Paz concluded by emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive economic solutions to address these challenges and ensure the viability of the nation.
