LA PAZ, Bolivia – An Evista deputy, Renán Cabezas, today defended controversial statements made by Pan-Bol leader Ruth Nina, who suggested "counting dead people instead of votes." Speaking to reporters, Cabezas asserted that Nina's remarks constitute an exercise of free expression, not a criminal offense. "Ms. Nina has made use of her right to free thought and free expression, which is contemplated in the Political Constitution of the State," Cabezas stated, surrounded by microphones. He emphasized that Nina's intention was not to incite subversion or cause chaos, but rather to demand respect for rights. "She is asking for rights to be respected," the deputy added. He urged the Bolivian people and media to thoroughly investigate all facts surrounding the statements, cautioning against demonizing a citizen's posture. "We cannot accept, we cannot allow the government to proscribe these rights conquered with much pain," he concluded.
