Electoral Jurors in Bolivia: Deadline Approaches for Exemption Applications to Avoid Fines

La Paz, Bolivia – The Electoral Body has announced the deadline for citizens selected as electoral jurors to present their excuses for non-attendance. Individuals who have been designated as electoral jurors for the upcoming elections but are unable to fulfill their duty have until Sunday, July 27th, to formally excuse themselves. Failure to do so, or to attend the mandatory training, will result in an economic sanction of 1,375 Bolivianos. According to the Electoral Body, valid reasons for exemption include: documented medical illness, pregnancy, circumstances of force majeure, or being an accredited political candidate or leader. Additionally, individuals whose essential public services are indispensable on election day, such as emergency medical personnel or media professionals, may also be excused. To process the exemption, citizens must visit their respective Departmental Electoral Tribunal or utilize the digital platform provided by the Electoral Body. In both modalities, it is mandatory to attach all supporting documents that justify the requested excuse. This measure aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral process while providing necessary flexibility for those with legitimate reasons for absence.
