Santa Cruz, Bolivia – Citizens selected as electoral jurors for the upcoming elections on August 17, 2025, face a significant financial penalty if they fail to fulfill their duties without a valid prior excuse. José Miguel Callejas, Vice President of the Departmental Electoral Tribunal of Santa Cruz (TED SC), announced that the fine for non-compliance will be equivalent to 50% of a national minimum wage. The announcement comes as the list of electoral jurors is set to be published this Friday, July 18, 2025. Callejas underscored the critical role of citizen participation in upholding the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. "It is the citizen themselves who must guarantee democracy and transparency in the electoral process, as they are also citizens of the Santa Cruz department who are on the biometric register and are enabled to vote," he stated. He added that these jurors are essential for safeguarding each citizen's vote and strengthening democracy. The TED SC urges all selected jurors to be aware of their responsibilities and to ensure their participation or provide timely and valid excuses to avoid penalties.
