Shooting in Santa Cruz: Residents Blame Land Conflict for House Attack

SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA – A residence in the Vallecitos 2 neighborhood, located in the northern part of Santa Cruz, was targeted in a shooting incident early Monday morning. According to the homeowner and local residents, the attack, which left the property with at least three bullet impacts and shattered glass, is believed to be an act of reprisal stemming from a long-standing land conflict in the area.Police forensic experts from the Special Force to Fight Crime (FELCC) arrived at the scene to cordon off the area and collect bullet projectiles as evidence. Witnesses recounted the events, which occurred around 4:00 AM, while children were asleep inside the house.One resident, whose family was inside during the attack, stated, "The children were sleeping; they came out screaming. There are six people living here, four adults and two children." She emphasized that the incident was not a robbery but a clear act of intimidation.The property owner explained that they had purchased the land with the promise of receiving official documents, but these have not been provided. He added, "We have been subjected to insecurity by these people who are settled in the area. There are about five properties where there are fights with machetes." Residents allege that "land grabbers" are behind these actions, attempting to illegally seize their properties. They expressed exhaustion with the ongoing intimidation tactics.Authorities are investigating the incident, which residents assert was a planned act. No injuries were reported, but the structural damage to the building and the psychological impact on the family are significant.
