One graduate, speaking about her decision to join, said, "Because of [my involvement with the Gardaí following a family tragedy], I've seen firsthand how the guards deal with the community, and it made me feel like that's what I want to do." Another graduate added, "It was something I always wanted to do...through military service, I was able to build up my education, and when the time came, I tried a new challenge and joined the guards."
