LUXEMBOURG CITY – As McDonald's celebrates its 40th anniversary in Luxembourg, a surprising historical detail about one of its most popular menu items has come to light: the Chicken McNugget was invented by a Luxembourgish chef. René Arend, originally from Wiltz, is credited with developing the iconic recipe. Arend, who honed his gastronomic skills in Strasbourg, moved to the United States in 1956. It took him between 14 and 16 months to perfect the Chicken McNugget, with the final version of the recipe being released in 1979. The first McDonald's restaurant in Luxembourg opened its doors in July 1985, located at 49, Avenue de la Gare. Today, the Grand Duchy boasts 11 McDonald's locations across the country. This revelation ensures that every time a McNugget is enjoyed, a small piece of Luxembourgish culinary history is savored.
