Minsk Mother Demands Housing Rights for Large Families Amid Bureaucratic Hurdles
MINSK, Belarus – A Minsk resident, Marina, has publicly voiced her frustration regarding the challenges faced by multi-child families in securing adequate housing, despite existing presidential decrees aimed at supporting such families. In a recent video, Marina, a mother of three, described her ongoing struggle to obtain housing, stating that she has repeatedly appealed to various government bodies, including the administration and the Minsk City Executive Committee, only to receive what she describes as "absurd answers" or referrals to other departments. Marina emphasized her long-term residency in Minsk, noting that she has lived in the city for 25 years and previously worked diligently to secure dormitory accommodation. She highlighted a perceived disparity in the system, questioning why some individuals allegedly receive preferential treatment for housing while she, an "ordinary average citizen," is unable to access her rightful benefits. "The president has clearly stated in the law that a third child is mine, and housing should be provided," Marina stated in her video. "Why do I not have the right to use this opportunity? Why is the law written if I cannot benefit from what is rightfully mine?" She further clarified that according to her understanding of the law, housing construction is offered for children up to 23 years old, not just 18. Marina expressed her determination to continue advocating for her rights, stating, "I will demand what is written in the law. I will ask and demand. Why do I not have the right?" She also appealed to her followers to share her video, hoping her message would reach the president directly, as she has grown "tired of writing to the administration and receiving ridiculous answers."
