Madrid, Spain A local delivery rider has brought to light a concerning issue regarding the treatment of gig economy workers by establishments in the city. In a recent video, the rider, known as alexboken_ online, shared his personal experiences, stating that he and his colleagues often face a stark difference in courtesy compared to regular customers. "It's probably one of the biggest changes I notice when delivering in Madrid," he explained, referring to "the way people treat the rider." While acknowledging that customers at home might not have direct interaction, he emphasized the behavior of staff at businesses. "There are some establishments that treat riders well and look at you with a good face, but there are others that, honestly, you can't even imagine. Their face changes completely when they talk to a rider versus a normal customer who is going to sit down." He recounted a specific incident: "Just yesterday at 'El Sumo,' I waited 20 minutes for an order. When I simply said, 'Hey, goodbye, good evening,' he didn't even look at me. He just asked if the order was confirmed and that was it." The rider expressed a desire for basic respect and education. "I don't ask for much, just a little bit of education and a little bit of kindness." He speculated, "Maybe it's because I'm from Cadiz and I'm used to something else," implying a cultural difference in politeness. The video has sparked discussion among viewers about the working conditions and social perception of delivery personnel.
