Madrid, Spain – Automotive expert Ángel Gaitan has issued a stark warning to consumers across Spain regarding a prevalent car fraud scheme, particularly affecting the sale of used vehicles. Gaitan, known for his work at Gt Automoción and Training Tech Academy, highlighted a specific case involving a grey Ford Ranger Raptor, which he claims has been repeatedly advertised with falsified manufacturing dates and damaged chassis numbers by a particular dealer. "I had warned about this before, and I'm warning you all again," Gaitan stated in a recent video, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He recounted how a friend recently placed a 3,000 euro deposit on the problematic Ford Ranger Raptor, which was advertised with an incorrect manufacturing year and a "completely deteriorated" chassis number. Gaitan's intervention was crucial, leading to the immediate return of the deposit and preventing a larger transaction of nearly 50,000 euros. Gaitan explained that the fraudulent dealer attempted to misrepresent the vehicle's age, listing it with various model years (2023, 2022, 2021) across different Spanish localities. He stressed that the true manufacturing year of a vehicle can be identified through components like windows and tires, not solely by its first registration date, which can be misleading, especially for imported vehicles. "If you see a chassis number that is completely oxidized and deteriorated, be suspicious and ask for all corresponding documentation," Gaitan advised. He expressed concern that despite his interventions, these fraudulent vehicles continue to circulate, posing a risk to unsuspecting buyers. "It's very sad to see what's happening. I deal with cases like this every day," he added, mentioning similar issues with other brands like Renault and Ford. Gaitan urged potential buyers to exercise extreme caution and consider professional verification before purchasing a used car. "It's very difficult to act once the money is gone, because then it depends on justice, and justice is very slow," he concluded, underscoring the potential for significant financial and legal headaches for victims. His efforts aim to protect consumers from falling prey to such deceptive practices in the automotive market.
