Guatemala City, Guatemala – Hospital General San Juan de Dios is currently facing significant challenges following recent flooding that has caused extensive damage to its facilities. A representative from Bancada VOS conducted an inspection of the hospital, revealing the extent of the impact. During the visit, wet and damaged administrative documents were observed, along with visible damage to the ceiling, indicating a severe water ingress. The Bancada VOS representative noted that staff were still actively working to remove water from affected areas. The official highlighted that the hospital has historically faced infrastructural issues, and this latest incident exacerbates existing problems. He criticized past government administrations, stating that previous hospital directors had approached Bancada VOS with complaints about the lack of support from the prior government. He underscored the importance of ongoing fiscalization and urged the public to report any further complaints to ensure accountability. The representative concluded by expressing concern that such crises could become recurrent without proper intervention.
