Laisser une simple bouteille d'eau dans sa voiture pourrait, sans qu’on le sache, poser un vrai problème en plein été.
Leaving a plastic water bottle in your car on a hot day could lead to unexpected dangers, according to recent safety warnings. Experts highlight two primary risks: fire hazards and health concerns from chemical leaching. The transparent plastic of a water bottle, when filled with water, can act as a convex lens, concentrating sunlight onto a single point. This focused beam of light can generate enough heat to ignite flammable materials inside a vehicle, such as fabric seats or floor mats. Documented cases of car fires attributed to this phenomenon have prompted firefighters to conduct demonstrations, visually proving the potential for ignition. Beyond fire risks, the heat inside a parked car can cause chemicals like Bisphenol A (BPA) from the plastic bottle to leach into the water. Consuming this water can pose health risks. To mitigate these dangers, safety experts advise against leaving plastic water bottles in vehicles, particularly during warm weather. Instead, it is recommended to use opaque, insulated water bottles and to store them in cooler, shaded areas within the car or remove them from the vehicle entirely when parked.
