Gardeners frequently encounter challenges in plant care, and a common issue affecting cucumber plants is peronosporosis, identifiable by yellow spots on leaves. According to a recent instructional video, these spots signify the early stages of the disease, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to widespread yellowing and eventual death of the leaves. For effective treatment, especially when cucumbers are fruiting, the video recommends using a contact agent rather than systemic preparations. Copper sulfate is suggested, with a precise dosage of 5 grams dissolved in 1 liter of warm water. The author emphasizes the importance of not exceeding this dosage to prevent chemical burns on the plant. The treatment protocol involves several critical steps: first, all existing cucumbers, even small ones, must be harvested. Second, all diseased leaves should be carefully removed. Third, if the plants are grown in a greenhouse, they should be lowered along their support ropes. Finally, the entire plant—including the top and bottom of leaves, stems, and fruits—along with the surrounding soil, should be thoroughly sprayed with the copper sulfate solution. This comprehensive application aims to completely eliminate the disease-causing bacteria. After treatment, new cucumber growth is expected within 5 to 7 days, and these fresh cucumbers can be safely harvested and consumed. However, any cucumbers that were directly exposed to the copper sulfate solution should be thoroughly washed and peeled before consumption, as copper sulfate is a contact-only treatment and does not penetrate the fruit itself.
