Odesa Beaches: Algae Near Shore, But Clear Waters Await Further Out

Odesa, Ukraine – On August 4th, beachgoers in Odesa encountered significant amounts of green algae near the shoreline, leading to concerns about the water quality. A video captured by a local resident, dima_khrystiev_, depicted dense green masses along the immediate beach area, which the author described as "trash." However, the footage also revealed a contrasting scene just a short distance from the shore. As the camera moved deeper into the sea, the water transitioned to a clear and transparent state, allowing the sandy bottom to be easily seen. Several individuals were observed swimming comfortably in these clearer waters. This phenomenon of algae blooms is not uncommon in Odesa during summer months, as noted by numerous comments on the video. While the initial appearance may deter some, the clear conditions further out suggest that the sea remains suitable for recreational activities.
