Doctor's warning on huge mistake everyone is making with their eyes
An optometrist has people looking twice after revealing the one bad habit thousands are guilty of, and why it could be putting your vision at risk.
Detroit, Michigan – Eye care professionals at Fraser Eye are urging the public to break common habits that could be silently damaging their vision and eye health. In a recent public awareness video, optometrists highlighted two prevalent issues: aggressive eye rubbing and insufficient blinking. "Eye rubbing is one habit you absolutely need to stop," stated one optometrist in the video. "Instead of rubbing the eyeball, rub the bone around your eye. It will scratch the itch, but it will put you at less risk of diseases like keratoconus." Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape, leading to distorted vision. Another doctor added that eye rubbing also contributes to loose skin around the eyes. The video also addressed the widespread issue of not blinking enough, particularly among individuals who spend extended periods on computers or studying. "Patients will be working on a computer, reading, students will be studying, and they just get too focused on what they're doing and they don't blink," explained another optometrist. This lack of blinking can lead to dry eyes and various lid issues. "If you just practice blinking, you'll save yourself a lot of hassle," he advised. Eye care experts emphasize that awareness and simple adjustments to daily routines can significantly contribute to long-term eye health and prevent serious conditions.
