Riga, Latvia – A local consumer, Elviss Strazdiņš, has shed light on the pervasive issue of counterfeit toys, specifically the popular Labubu plush figures, after being defrauded by purchasing a fake. Strazdiņš, who later acquired an authentic Labubu for €100 from an official online retailer, created a detailed video comparison to educate the public on how to identify genuine products. In his exposé, Strazdiņš meticulously demonstrated several key differences between the real and fake Labubu toys. He noted that authentic packaging features a distinct sticker and a matte finish, unlike the glossy, sticker-less counterfeit boxes. Upon unboxing, significant disparities in the toys themselves became apparent. The genuine Labubu boasts individually separated ears, a finely crafted nose, and precisely nine teeth. In contrast, the fake version displayed conjoined ears, a less defined nose, and ten teeth, with one often unpainted. A critical safety concern was also highlighted: the counterfeit toy's detachable foot inserts, which Strazdiņš demonstrated could easily come loose, posing a potential choking hazard for young children. The authentic Labubu, however, features a robust internal skeleton allowing for posable limbs, a feature absent in the fake. Furthermore, Strazdiņš showcased the official verification methods for genuine Labubu toys, including a scannable QR code on the packaging and a hidden logo on the toy's foot that illuminates under UV light, confirming its authenticity. This incident underscores the importance of consumer vigilance when purchasing popular products.
