Belgrade, Serbia – A recent video posted by solo traveler “Em’s Side Quests ✈️” has put a spotlight on a local culinary curiosity: Bucko Pizza. The establishment, described as a “hole-in-the-wall” shop in Belgrade, is gaining attention for its unconventional approach to pizza toppings, specifically the generous application of various salads, often likened to coleslaw. The traveler, who documented her experience, chose a tuna salad topping for her pizza slice. Despite the initial visual surprise, she enthusiastically declared it “one of my favourite pizzas I’ve ever had,” highly recommending the spot to fellow visitors. However, the video has ignited a lively discussion among viewers, particularly locals. While some comments echo the traveler’s positive sentiment, praising the pizza as a “legendary pizza slice” and a “3am or 4am pizza” tradition, others express strong disagreement. Several Serbian commenters disputed the pizza’s quality and popularity, with one stating, “As a Serb - this is not popular, its super bad quality, and the ‘pizza’ is awful.” Another comment highlighted concerns about the sourcing of ingredients, claiming, “my relatives owned a meet factory and they said to me never to eat from that place as they picked below the lowest standard meet for their salads.” The pronunciation of “Bucko” also became a point of discussion, with locals clarifying it as “Boo-ts-kow” or “Butzko,” meaning “chubby.” The unique offering and the ensuing online debate underscore the diverse culinary landscape and the passionate opinions it can evoke, especially when traditional dishes are given an unexpected twist.
