Belgrade, Serbia - A recent video from digital nomad connorhayesofficial, also known as hydrahayes, has sparked discussion online regarding the cost of living and tipping culture in Belgrade. The content creator, originally from California and currently residing in Hungary, shared his initial impressions of the Serbian capital, highlighting what he perceived as significantly lower prices for meals compared to his home country. In the video, uploaded on August 22, 2025, the vlogger described enjoying a healthy brunch, including a double espresso and a brunch bowl with avocado, eggs, and quinoa, for a total of $9. He contrasted this with an estimated $18 for a similar meal, plus tip, in his home country. A key point of his observation was the claim, "You don't tip here," which quickly drew numerous comments from individuals identifying as locals or frequent visitors to Serbia. Many commenters clarified that while tipping is not mandatory, it is customary and appreciated, usually around 10% for good service, or by rounding up the bill. Further elaborating on his experience, the vlogger mentioned visiting a high-end nightclub, "Money Club," where drinks cost $11, and again, no tip was requested. Despite the differing views on tipping, the content creator expressed overall satisfaction with Belgrade, praising the city's "immaculate vibes" and the friendliness of its locals. He stated that he had already made several friends and that the city had exceeded his expectations, giving it a "10 out of 10" recommendation.
