Veteran Trader Evicted from Kasturi Walk, Activist Demands Answers from KL City Hall
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – On June 18, 2025, Datuk Dr Kalaivanar, the head activist of Nambikkai Kebangsaan, held a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, urging immediate intervention from the Kuala Lumpur Mayor and Territory Minister regarding the eviction of veteran trader Abdul Aziz from his stall at Kasturi Walk. Mr. Abdul Aziz, who has been operating at the location since 1995 with a valid license and no outstanding rent, reportedly found his belongings removed without prior notice upon returning from the Hari Raya holidays. Dr. Kalaivanar questioned the decision to gazette Kasturi Walk as a road reserve, which has subsequently been leased to Central Market. He emphasized that Mr. Abdul Aziz is a law-abiding trader who has consistently paid his monthly rent to Central Market. "He is not selling weapons; he is selling food and drinks," Dr. Kalaivanar stated, highlighting the trader's legitimate business. He also noted that Mr. Abdul Aziz is currently unwell, adding to the urgency of the situation. The activist demanded an open explanation and a resolution to Mr. Abdul Aziz's case, as well as clarity on the lease status of Kasturi Walk, within 10 working days. He warned that if no action is taken, Nambikkai Kebangsaan will organize a large-scale press conference with more traders and Kuala Lumpur residents to press for justice. Mr. Abdul Aziz's daughter, Puan Wawa, and a representative from the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), Kak Jan, were present at the press conference in support.
