Minsk, Belarus – A recent video shared by a young Belarusian woman, known as @karieenka on social media, has resonated with thousands, shedding light on the emotional rollercoaster of university admissions. The student, who applied for primary education, revealed her disappointment after missing the required passing score for a budget-funded spot by a single point. “I didn’t get in, and the most обидно (offensive/frustrating) thing is that I was just one point short,” she stated in her video, visibly emotional. She explained that the passing score for her chosen program dramatically increased this year, from approximately 280 points last year to 308 points. Despite achieving 307 points herself, a score she considered a good result after extensive preparation and exams, it was not enough for a state-funded spot. However, the young woman also shared a silver lining. Her parents are prepared to cover the costs of paid education, allowing her to pursue a different path: psychology. An additional benefit of paid enrollment, she noted, is the exemption from mandatory work placement after graduation, a common requirement for state-funded students in Belarus. “Perhaps it’s just not my destiny,” she mused, reflecting on the situation. “As they say, everything happens for a reason.” She concluded by inviting other students to share their own experiences with this year’s university admissions, fostering a supportive community around a shared challenge.
