Mother's Intuition Saves Newborn: Sara's Miraculous Recovery After Rare Diaphragmatic Hernia

Mother's Intuition Saves Newborn: Sara's Miraculous Recovery After Rare Diaphragmatic Hernia A mother from Serbia, Milica Stanić, has shared a poignant account of her daughter Sara's life-threatening medical emergency and miraculous recovery, highlighting the critical role of parental intuition and the challenges faced within the healthcare system. Milica recounted that shortly after Sara's birth, she felt something was wrong with her baby, who was not feeding and appeared lifeless. Despite repeated visits to doctors who dismissed her concerns, stating "everything was fine," Milica's persistence grew. On the 18th day, Sara's condition worsened dramatically; she vomited green bile and began to suffocate. Rushed to the hospital in Sremska Mitrovica, doctors initially prepared for discharge. However, upon lifting the baby, Sara again vomited and choked. An anesthesiologist was called, signaling the severity of the situation. Sara was resuscitated and given artificial respiration before being urgently transferred to Novi Sad. In Novi Sad, an ultrasound revealed that Sara had a diaphragmatic hernia, a rare condition where intestines and liver had entered her lungs, causing severe breathing difficulties. The mother was not permitted to accompany her critically ill baby in the ambulance, a decision she strongly criticized. Sara underwent a four-hour surgery. Doctors informed the parents that had they waited another day, Sara would not have survived due to her lungs filling with air and the risk of sepsis. The baby also had a hole in her heart, pneumonia, and an inflamed appendix, which was removed. Her lungs were severely compromised, with only one functioning properly, and her oxygen saturation was dangerously low. Milica revealed that doctors later confirmed the diaphragmatic hernia should have been visible on prenatal ultrasounds and that babies with this condition are typically operated on within three days of birth. Despite the immense challenges and emotional toll, Milica credits God and the dedicated doctors in Novi Sad for saving her daughter. Sara is now nearly six years old and thriving. Milica urges all parents to trust their instincts and seek medical help if they feel something is wrong with their child.
