Barcelona, Spain – A recent video shared by a Polish resident in Barcelona has sparked discussion regarding the stark difference in coffee prices between Poland and Spain. The author, who has lived in Spain for over four years, highlights what he describes as the 'absurd' cost of coffee in Poland. According to the video, a specialty cappuccino in Barcelona can be purchased for as little as 2.60 euros, which is approximately 11.20 Polish Zloty (PLN) at current exchange rates. This contrasts sharply with prices in Warsaw, where similar specialty cappuccinos are reported to cost between 16 to 20 PLN. The author questions the frequent justifications for high coffee prices in Poland, such as 'rental costs,' 'ZUS, employees, taxes,' and 'quality coffee must cost more.' He points out that Spain also has similar operational costs and taxes. The video features a visit to a local Barcelona coffee shop, showcasing its minimalist interior, high-quality coffee machine, and a clear price list where an espresso costs 1.80 euros and a cappuccino 2.60 euros. The video suggests that the significant price disparity cannot be solely attributed to operational expenses, implying that other factors might be at play in the Polish market.
