Warsaw, Poland – A new pilot program introduced by the Ministry of Labor is set to allow Polish employees to work shorter hours without a reduction in pay. The initiative, which began accepting applications from employers on August 14 and will continue until September 15, aims to test the feasibility and impact of reduced work schedules before considering broader implementation into the national labor code. Under the program, participating employers will receive subsidies from the Ministry of Labor. In return, they can offer their employees a 6-hour workday, a 3-day weekend, or additional vacation days, all while maintaining current salary levels. The program is designed as a trial to observe how such changes affect productivity and employee well-being in practice. The announcement has generated significant discussion among the public. Many express skepticism about the willingness of employers, particularly in sectors like retail or manufacturing, to adopt such measures. One commenter noted, "I can already see crowds of willing employers 😂😂😂," while another added, "I don't know where this will find application. Certainly not in healthcare." Concerns were also raised about the potential impact on public services, with one individual stating, "public servants will work shorter hours, and the average citizen will have even less time to get things done." Despite the mixed public reaction, the Ministry of Labor views the pilot program as a crucial step in exploring modern work models and improving work-life balance for Polish citizens.
