Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Eggs Hospitalizes 18 Across 14 States Health officials are currently investigating a widespread salmonella outbreak tied to contaminated eggs, which has led to illnesses in 95 individuals across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the outbreak, prompting a recall by California-based supplier Country Eggs. The company has voluntarily halted the production of the affected products while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducts a thorough investigation. As of the latest reports, 18 people have required hospitalization due to the severity of their symptoms. Cases have been identified in at least 14 states, indicating the broad reach of the contaminated products. The recalled eggs, specifically large brown cage-free sunshine yolk eggs from Country Eggs LLC, were also sold under various brand names including Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets. Additionally, they were supplied to food service as large brown "sunshine yolks" or "omega-3 golden yolks." The incident has sparked public concern regarding food safety standards. One former food inspector commented, "The food supply isn safe with the changes they\'ve made to only testing for 2 pathogens instead of the 7 that are routinely tested. So now, more than ever, everything is eat at your own risk." Another concerned citizen questioned, "Why does this only happen in the US?" The ongoing investigation aims to determine the root cause and prevent further illnesses.
