Potosí Blanketed by Heavy Snow: Temperatures Plummet to -12°C

Potosí, Bolivia – The southwestern region of Potosí experienced significant snowfall between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, with accumulations reaching up to five centimeters in some areas. The intense weather event, triggered by a cold front from the south, saw temperatures plummet to as low as -12 degrees Celsius. According to officials, the municipalities most affected by the heavy snow include San Pedro de Lipez, Río Chilenas, Ketanas Chico, San Antonio de Esmoruco, San Agustín, and San Pablo de Lipes. An official confirmed that these five municipalities have been entirely covered by snow. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, particularly concerning agricultural activities and travel on local roads. While there have been unconfirmed reports of llama deaths due to the extreme cold, officials stated that an exact quantification of livestock losses is not yet available and will be provided soon. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate risks associated with the severe weather conditions.
