COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA – The family of Jairo Retamozo Cespedes is urgently calling for authorities to investigate his death as a murder, rather than a suicide. Jairo, 30, was found deceased in an apartment he shared with his ex-partner, Luz T., who is the sole witness to the incident and has reportedly remained silent on the matter.Family representatives, alongside their legal counsel, expressed their suspicions regarding Luz T.'s reluctance to provide a statement. "We do not know if this is for health reasons or perhaps a legal strategy to avoid being held accountable or to gain time in this investigative stage," stated the family's lawyer. The legal team emphasized that according to Article 252 of the Bolivian Penal Code, the killing of a spouse or cohabitant is explicitly defined as murder. "Therefore, the provisional classification under which this incident should be investigated, for us, must be murder," the lawyer asserted. The family is seeking justice for Jairo and has invited the public, friends, and colleagues to join them for a memorial service marking nine days since his passing. The service is scheduled for this Saturday, June 28th, at 7:00 PM at the Santa Ana de Calacala Temple in Cochabamba. The family expressed gratitude for the widespread support received both locally and nationally during this tragic time.
