Child Murder in Oruro: Inheritance Dispute Leads to Tragic Family Crime

ORURO, Bolivia – An 8-year-old girl has been tragically murdered in Oruro, Bolivia, in a case linked to an inheritance dispute. The young victim, who became an orphan after her mother's death in January, was the sole heir to a property, sparking a bitter family conflict. Initially, the girl was under the care of her 73-year-old grandmother. However, a judicial decision later transferred her custody to an aunt. The aunt had faced accusations of mistreating the minor, according to preliminary reports. The child was discovered deceased on June 21st in a residence in Oruro. Autopsy results revealed the cause of death as poisoning and strangulation, indicating a violent end. Authorities quickly identified the grandmother as the primary suspect after she was found unconscious alongside the victim. A letter left by the grandmother reportedly stated her intention to end both her own life and her granddaughter's, attributing the desperate act to the aunt's actions and the judicial ruling regarding custody. Following the discovery, the grandmother has been charged with infanticide and remains in preventive detention as investigations continue. The aunt has also been implicated and imprisoned on charges of domestic violence. The Public Ministry is now actively investigating the circumstances that led to the transfer of the girl's guardianship from her grandmother to the aunt, and whether due diligence was followed in the custody decision. Prosecutors have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests as the case unfolds.
