La Paz, Bolivia – A recent report from Brazilian authorities has placed Bolivia as the fourth country with the highest presence of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), a powerful Brazilian criminal organization. The findings, highlighted by the Brazilian Public Ministry and São Paulo state authorities, indicate a concerning expansion of organized crime in the region. According to the report, the PCC's strategy in countries like Bolivia, Paraguay, and Venezuela is not primarily to establish territorial control through violence. Instead, the group focuses on infiltrating existing criminal networks and forming alliances with local groups or family clans. This approach is particularly effective in culturally and geographically close border regions. The report identifies 146 PCC members in Bolivia, with 75 currently imprisoned and 71 at large. Experts cited in the Globo News report emphasize the PCC's extensive experience in recruiting new members from within prison systems, which further complicates efforts to dismantle their operations. The presence of PCC members operating freely in Bolivia raises concerns about their involvement in logistical chains, cargo shipments, and money laundering activities. These operations are often coordinated with other transnational criminal actors, underscoring the regional and international reach of the organization. Paraguay, with 699 identified PCC members, is also noted as a significant hub for drug trafficking activities linked to the group.
