"It's very cold right now, we are at 7 or 8 degrees, and a coffee would be very good for this weather," stated one resident, enjoying a hot drink with a cheese empanada. Another individual mentioned, "A coffee with milk and salteña." The sentiment was widely shared, with many emphasizing the need to warm up. One woman expressed her delight, "I'm eating a delicious masaco with yuca chicharrón and a tojorí, and some pastries. Super delicious for the cold!" Vendors at the Abasto Market confirmed a surge in sales of traditional hot items. "We are preparing api, tojorí, hot chocolate with milk," said a vendor, noting that sales have been good with "a lot of movement." She added, "What sells most in this cold is api and tojorí, and hot chocolate." The vendors extended an invitation to all Santa Cruz residents to visit the market to find their warming treats.
