Oruro Reports Laboratory-Positive Measles Case, Awaiting Full Confirmation

ORURO, Bolivia – Health authorities in Oruro have announced a laboratory-positive case of measles, though they clarify that the case is not yet epidemiologically or clinically confirmed. The announcement was made during a press conference by the Departmental Health Service (SEDES) of Oruro.According to the officials, a 16-year-old female patient tested positive for measles in a laboratory analysis conducted on June 27, 2025. This patient had initially sought consultation at a local health establishment on June 23, 2025.The health authority emphasized that a case is only considered fully confirmed when it presents an epidemiological link, clinical symptoms, and a positive laboratory result. In this particular instance, while the laboratory test is positive, the epidemiological link and clinical criteria are still being evaluated.Officials also noted that the adolescent had received her initial measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine at one year of age and a booster at three years of age. SEDES Oruro assured the public that all necessary health measures are being implemented to manage the situation and prevent further spread, while awaiting the complementary analyses for definitive confirmation.
