Bolivia: Hundreds of Minors Travel, Measles Vaccination Intensifies, and Cold Grips Valleys

Bolivia Faces Travel Rush, Health Concerns, and Extreme Cold La Paz, Bolivia – June 30, 2025 – Bolivia is experiencing a confluence of significant events as school holidays commence, a measles vaccination campaign intensifies, and a cold front sweeps through key regions. In Santa Cruz, the Defender's Office for Children and Adolescents has reported issuing over 400 travel permits for minors in anticipation of the school vacation period. Officials confirm that service points, including the central office and the bus terminal, are operating from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Sunday, to accommodate the increased demand for travel documentation. Meanwhile, in Cochabamba, lengthy queues have been observed at the city's bus terminal as parents seek measles vaccinations for their children. The vaccination point, specifically targeting minors aged 5 to 14, has seen a surge in demand. Several parents expressed frustration, stating they had previously visited other health centers only to be informed of vaccine shortages, prompting their visit to the bus terminal. Adding to the national developments, the Valle Cruceños region, particularly areas like Vallegrande and Pucará, is grappling with intense cold and dense fog. Temperatures have dropped below 0°C, with forecasts indicating possible frosts. Visibility is significantly reduced, especially on roads leading to Pucará. Authorities are advising drivers to exercise extreme caution and urging farmers to take necessary measures to protect their crops from the freezing conditions.
