La Paz, Bolivia – Bolivia's country risk index has fallen below 1,500 points for the first time this year, reaching 1,490 points on July 16, according to a report published by Bloomberg. This marks a significant improvement from the 2,087 points recorded at the beginning of the year, as per data from JP Morgan. The decline in the country risk index is largely attributed to electoral expectations that favor opposition candidates to the current left-wing government. This shift has reportedly provoked a positive reaction in international markets. In recent weeks, Bolivia's sovereign bonds have also experienced a notable rebound, which is linked to the current electoral landscape. Despite these recent positive developments, Bolivia continues to hold the second-highest country risk in the region, surpassed only by Venezuela. Economist Jonathan Fortún, in an interview with Bloomberg, warned that Bolivia's economic situation remains extremely fragile and necessitates urgent corrective measures to ensure stability.
