CAINCO Urges "Enabling State" and Deep Reforms for Bolivia's Future
Santa Cruz, Bolivia – Jean Pierre Antelo, President of the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Santa Cruz (CAINCO), recently articulated a strong call for an "enabling state" in Bolivia, following a significant forum with political candidates. The event, organized by CAINCO, aimed to ascertain the future relationship between the government and the private sector, particularly in the context of the upcoming general elections. Antelo emphasized that the objective of the forum was to determine whether candidates envision governing in collaboration with or in spite of the business community. "We believe in a possible future, in building a country that must consider the private sector as a key player in generating development," Antelo stated during an interview. He further added, "We need an enabling state, not a state that competes with its people, with its companies, not a state that fosters monopoly." Highlighting the current challenges, Antelo pointed to issues such as long queues for fuel, deepening economic crisis, and inflation affecting citizens. He underscored the necessity of profound and structural reforms, not only in the economic sphere but across various sectors including education and innovation. "We must rebuild confidence in the public sector to attract new foreign investments and for the private sector to continue investing," he asserted. "We must open new markets to generate more exports." Antelo stressed that the current government has a responsibility to address these demands until the new administration takes office. He concluded by reiterating CAINCO's commitment to a democratic future for Bolivia, one that addresses all integral issues for national construction, including opportunities for youth and aligning education with labor demands.
