COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA – A 34-year-old woman has fled her home in Entre Ríos and traveled to Cochabamba, seeking urgent assistance after enduring years of severe domestic violence at the hands of her 40-year-old partner. The victim, whose identity is being protected, revealed the horrific extent of the abuse, which included physical assaults that led to a miscarriage and a fractured clavicle. "He always, from the moment I got together with him, first started with insults, like that," she recounted in an emotional testimony. She further detailed a specific incident where her partner attempted to strangle her with her own braids in May of this year. Despite her repeated attempts to seek help from local authorities in Entre Ríos, the woman claims she was met with indifference. "They told me, 'Go back to your house, go back to your house'," she stated, expressing her desperation. "I couldn't anymore. So, in that case, where am I going to go?" The woman managed to escape to Cochabamba with her 16-year-old daughter. However, her three younger children, aged 14, 8, and 4, remain with the alleged abuser in Entre Ríos. Authorities in Cochabamba are now reviewing her case as she seeks protection and justice for herself and her children. This case highlights the critical need for effective support systems for victims of domestic violence and accountability for perpetrators.
